One-on-One

What are your favorite places to study, hang out, and relax?
One of my favorite places to study is the lounge in Wohler’s Hall. The lounge is located in close proximity of my classes, and it’s just a great place to go and hit the books during an hour break. Also, the undergrad library is also a great place to go if I want some peace and quiet. I generally like hanging out around the dorms. I live on the transfer cluster and all of us are pretty close. We try to leave our dorm room doors open often to create a very social atmosphere. On nice days, you can’t beat relaxing on the Quad to crack a book open or play some Frisbee.

What clubs or organizations on campus are you involved with?
I am involved in T.E.A.M., Transfer Experience and Advising Mentors. T.E.A.M. was created to help facilitate a stress-free transfer process. Our goals are to support and provide assistance to any oncoming transfers to Illinois. This job is extremely rewarding because it allows me to help students out who are in the same position I was once in.

Why and how did you choose your major?
Since high school, I knew I was interested in business, but I was never really sure what I wanted to major in. During my sophomore year of college, I began working at Washington Mutual Bank, when I realized that the financial world really interested me. And then I declared finance as my major and I’ve been happy with my decision ever since.

Describe your most memorable experience at Illinois.
I was running on a treadmill at ARC (Activities and Recreation Center) when my iPod fell out of my hand and onto the treadmill. I tried to stop the iPod with my feet and ended up falling face first. It really hurt, but I earned some battle wounds to strut around for a couple of weeks.

What is your advice to prospective students?
Get involved. I can’t stress enough that getting involved in clubs and organizations helps build a network of friends. Coming to a brand new environment where you might not know many people can be very intimidating, but getting involved can help ease the process.
