One-on-One
What are your favorite places to study, hang out, and relax?
I like to pop into the union to read or study between classes. The undergrad library is a good place for those long, late night study sessions.
What clubs or organizations on campus are you involved with?
I’m a member of Legend Dance Company. We choreograph various styles of dance including jazz, lyrical, tap, modern and perform at various campus and community events throughout the year. In April, we host a recital featuring all our routines at Lincoln Hall Theater. It is very rewarding to be a part of such a dedicated and talented group of dancers.
I also serve in the DGS Society, which is a student organization created to promote awareness about the new Division of General Studies and the resources it offers students. This group also holds a special place in my heart because I entered the college undecided as a freshman and with the help of the Division of General Studies have found the right major and path for me.
Why and how did you choose your major?
I took an LAS winter abroad course in Rome my freshman year. It was my first time out of the country. It was incredible. From this experience, I realized my strong passion and desire to explore other languages and cultures, which led me to declare my major in linguistics.
Describe your most memorable experience at Illinois.
Though I have so many memories of my time at Illinois, I would definitely list Chief Illiniwek’s last dance and the double snow day 2007.
What is your advice to prospective students?
Don't rush to declare a major. Even if you think you know what you want to study, give yourself a chance to explore and experiment before you commit to a major. Also, come to Illinois with an open mind. Never let another person do your thinking for you.
