One-on-One
What are your favorite places to study, hang out, and relax?
I like to study at the coffee shops on Green Street. When I find a few extra hours in my schedule, I try to spend it at the Illini Union.
What clubs or organizations on campus are you involved with?
I was the 2007 Chair of Volunteer Illini Projects, which is the largest student0run volunteer organization on campus. Made up of 16 different volunteer projects, Volunteer Illini Projects is able to match any interested student volunteer with the right philanthropic opportunity.
Why and how did you choose your major?
I’ve always wanted to become a teacher, bit after an integrated high school P.E. class, I knew my passion was working with students with disabilities. My students have the biggest hearts, and no two days are ever the same. While they have more barriers to overcome, they welcome the challenges life bring, recognize each others’ strengths and abilities, and celebrate all successes. I can’t imagine myself in any other profession.
Describe your most memorable experience at Illinois.
I was lucky enough to be a part of the 2007 Homecoming court. From riding in the back of a pickup truck during the rainy parade to the Illini win at the football game, it was an unforgettable weekend for me, my family, and my friends.
What is your advice to prospective students?
You won't regret your choice to become a member of the illinois family! You will learn so much about yourself while exploring the endless possibilities Illinois has to offer. Don’t be afraid of our numbers, it won’t be long until you realize why you truly belong here. Illinois is the most welcoming, diverse campus.
