The Illini Union
The Quad: The Illini Union is located on the north end of the Quad and is a popular destination for Illinois students.
The Illini Union is the heart of campustown. It is the central place on campus for academic functions, entertainment, and study breaks. Here’s some of what you’ll find:
- Illinites – a monthly program where students can take part in fun activities, such as sumo wrestling, singing karaoke, playing life-size Clue, and getting henna tattoos – all for free
- Quad Shop – a mini-convenience store that is perfect for picking up a snack between classes
- Restaurants – many quick counters offer options from coffee to sushi
- Hotel– a convenient location for when your family comes to visit
- Rec Room – includes bowling, billiards, arcades, and more
- Comfortable study areas – found throughout the building
Green Street
Coffee Break: Students meet at cafes along Green Street to study or to take a break.
Green Street is the main street that runs through campustown. Just steps from the Quad, it is the perfect place to meet up with friends for a meal, do some studying at a cafe, or enjoy a little casual shopping.
At night, students can catch live music, or gather to watch a game at one of the favorite hangouts.
Many students simply head toward Green Street for the conveniences located there, or close by, such as bookstores, grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, salons, etc.
But why settle for walking to Green Street when you can make it your address? There are several apartment options for students throughout the campustown area, including Green Street.
The Krannert District
Great Show: The Canopy Club hosts concerts, open mic nights, comedy shows, and other entertainment for Illinois students.
The area around Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, located on the Urbana side of campus, is known for trendy music, notable performances, and variety of restaurants.
Krannert Center regularly brings in world-renowned performers including musicians, dancers, and actors. All shows are reasonably priced for students, but there are also many free performances.
Canopy Club is the place to be for live music in a more intimate setting.
Find quick bites like empanadas and pizza or choose fine dining or Thai. Don’t miss out on the rich and diverse opportunities the Krannert District offers.
